Outdoor Rooms and a New Delivery Date For a Major 14th Street Development

by | Oct 24, 2017

There is a new anticipated delivery date for the Annabelle Selldorf-designed redevelopment of the Whitman-Walker clinic in Logan Circle along with new images of how the development will utilize public space.

The development, a partnership between Whitman-Walker Health and Fivesquares Development, will incorporate the former Elizabeth Taylor clinic and the Belmont Garage, respectively at 1701 and 1711 14th Street NW (map). The plans include four floors of 80-90 apartments above office and retail space. Whitman-Walker will continue to operate out of the new development, with some space on the first floor and offices taking up the entire second floor.

Following unanimous approval from the Historic Preservation Review Board last year, Fivesquares Andy Altman tells UrbanTurf that the delivery date for the project has been moved up from 2020.

“The groundbreaking last week was a major milestone for us as we now estimate that the mixed-use project will be delivered in the summer of 2019,” Altman said.

There are also new images of the public spaces that the developers plan for the corner of 14th and R Street NW, which is meant to be a public gathering space with “outdoor rooms” that have benches, landscaping and public art.

“We are very excited about this because we are creating a genuine civic gathering space on 14th Street where none currently exists,” Altman noted. “To do this we will ‘bulb-out’ the corner to give us a more generous space to work with.”
