Burger Restaurant To Replace Community Diner in Bethesda

by | Oct 26, 2017

Community, the upscale diner that opened in Bethesda last November, closed Wednesday and will be replaced by a new restaurant serving burgers, cocktails and craft beer.

Community owner Marc Bucher said his yet-to-be named new restaurant will open in a few weeks and will serve “the best burgers in Bethesda, at reasonable prices.”

Bucher, who started BGR, a fast-casual burger chain, and co-owns the Medium Rare steak and frites restaurants, said the new eatery also will feature salads and several of the most popular menu items from Community, including “boozy milkshakes,” “Tot-chos” and Smith Island Cake. Donuts and coffee will continue to be available at the walk-up window, he said.

The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner on weekdays, and brunch and dinner on weekends.

Bucher, a Bethesda resident, said Community was “plagued by tremendous service and training issues.” He added: “I wanted Community to be all things to all people, but it really couldn’t be.”
