More Gramercy District news: Construction team set for $500M ‘smart city’ in Ashburn

as featured in the Washington Business Journal

The master developer behind a planned $500 million “smart city” in Ashburn has assembled a team to design and build it.

The newest members of the Gramercy District lineup are the Tishman Construction unit of Los Angeles-based AECOM (NYSE: ACM), Herndon-based Trinity Group Construction, Gaithersburg-based DVA Architects, and Greystar, which will provide pre-construction consulting and property management services.

The group is “capable of implementing the vision of a marriage between technology and real estate development” to create Gramercy, “a smart city of the future,” 22 Capital Partners, the private equity firm behind Gramercy, said in a statement.

“We’ve put together a team known for their expertise in the design and construction of commercial, residential and retail developments, who are forward thinking, ready to embrace how technology can improve our city’s overall experience,” said Tom McConnell, executive vice president of Gramercy District.

The announcement is the second major Gramercy District-related reveal this week. On Monday, 22 Capital Partners sent word that George Washington University and the Center for Innovative Technology would partner on the technology side of the smart city development, joining Microsoft Corp. The Gramercy model calls for incorporating technology into all aspects of the development before it comes online.
