Pines of Rome will close this weekend and move to a new site on Cordell Avenue.
The Bethesda Italian restaurant, which has been open on Hampden Lane for more than 40 years, is relocating about a half mile away to 4918 Cordell Ave.
A sign on the door announced that the restaurant will close Sunday and reopen in the new space sometime in October. Marco Troino, the owner, could not be reached for comment Friday.
Local blogger Robert Dyer first reported the closing on Friday.
Workers were installing a Pines of Rome sign on the building Friday afternoon. Seats and tables had been set up inside, though a “closed” sign was posted on the door.
Douglas Development Corp. purchased Pines of Rome’s 4709 Hampden Lane site in 2014 and hopes to put a high-rise on the property.
