Shake Shack Coming to Montgomery County

by | Sep 20, 2017

Popular burger chain Shake Shack plans to open a restaurant in Montgomery County next year.

The restaurant will open in the Cabin John Shopping Center in late 2018, Kristyn Clark, a spokeswoman for the company, said.

This will be the first local outpost of the chain, which has dozens of restaurants nationally, including three in Baltimore and six in Washington, D.C.

“We’re always looking for dynamic communities to open in,” Clark said. “We definitely think this is one of them, so we’re excited.”

The chain, which started in New York City in 2004, serves burgers, chicken sandwiches, hot dogs and fries, as well as shakes and other desserts.

The size and specific menu of the Potomac location have not been confirmed, Clark said.

News of the planned Shake Shack was first reported by local retail blog Store Reporter.

Last week, the Montgomery County Planning Board approved plans for the construction of two standalone retail buildings with a total of 9,999 square feet of space at the shopping center, part of a larger plan to redevelop the complex.

Spokeswomen for Shack Shack and Edens, the developer that owns the site, said they could not yet confirm Shake Shack’s specific address or whether it would occupy one of the new buildings.

A BGR The Burger Joint location closed in the Cabin John Shopping Center this summer.

Clark said there is “nothing we can share right now” about more Shake Shacks planned for the area.
