Small Bites: Five Guys, Cava, Pieology and Honeygrow To Fill Former Timpano’s Spot

by | Jul 19, 2017

When Timpano Italian Chophouse closed in January, the developer had hoped to fill the space with “more contemporary” food options. It looks like that plan is coming to fruition, as a handful of fast-casual restaurants is set to move into the former space of the retro-style Italian steakhouse.

Five Guys, Cava, Pieology and Honeygrow are planning to open at Montrose Crossing this winter, local blog The Store Reporter reports. The space is still under construction, with crews and backhoes laying the foundation for a planned 19,000-square-foot structure with outdoor seating.

While Five Guys, Cava and Pieology have locations in the area, the Montrose Crossing spot store will be Philadelphia-based Honeygrow’s first in the county. Advocating plant-based foods, the eatery serves stir-fried dishes, salads, cold-pressed juices and a “honeybar” of fruits with dessert toppings. Build-your-own-pizza restaurant Pieology opened on Bethesda Row last month and has another spot in Gaithersburg, while Mediterranean fast-casual Cava also has restaurants on Bethesda Row and in Westfield Montgomery mall and downtown Silver Spring.

Hot dog-and-hamburger chain Five Guys has more than a dozen restaurants nearby, and the Montrose Crossing restaurant will replace another Five Guys across the street. A manager confirmed Monday that the 12238 Rockville Pike Five Guys will close before the staff moves into the new restaurant.

‘Pups on the Patio’ for Silver’s happy hour

Silver, the high-end iteration of the Silver Diner chain on Bethesda Row, is inviting some special guests to its summer happy hours. From 4 to 7 p.m. every Thursday until the end of September, diners are invited to bring their dogs with them as they enjoy discounted drinks and appetizers.

The weekly event features special menu items and pet-friendly giveaways. Some proceeds from each happy hour will benefit local dog rescues, according to the restaurant.
