A website for apartment hunters has ranked Bethesda as the D.C. region’s third most expensive city for rental housing.
Median monthly rent for a one-bedroom unit in Bethesda stands at $2,040, according to the data compiled by Zumper. Leading the list was Arlington, Virginia, where the median rent for such apartments was $2,350. Washington, D.C., came in second place with a median rent of $2,150.
The most affordable cities were Frederick – with a median rent of $1,140 – and Rockville – with a median rent of $1,600, according to Zumper. The cities of Reston, Silver Spring and Alexandria ended up in the middle of the pack.
However, the Zumper report indicated that Silver Spring has the fastest-rising annual costs, with rents shooting by 11 percent compared to last year. Monthly rates are going up the fastest in Bethesda and Reston, both of which saw a 5.2 percent increase over last year.
Zumper, which released the report Monday, ranked the cities by analyzing active listings from June.
