Fairfax County or officially, the County of Fairfax is a county in Northern Virginia. Fairfax County borders both Virginia counties as well as Maryland counties. Its neighbors are Loudoun County, Prince William County, and Arlington County in Virgina and Charles County, Montgomery County, and Prince George’s County in Maryland. Due to its convenient location to Washington DC and Maryland, Fairfax county has become the most populous jurisdiction in the Washington Metropolitan area.
The area is served by Fairfax County Public Schools and is home to the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology which consistently ranks among the top of all United States high schools. TJHSST is able to reach this incredible ranking due to its high average of SAT scores among other factors. George Mason University, Northern Virginia Community College, and The University of Fairfax are all located within the Fairfax County borders.
With the growing population of Fairfax and Virginia in itself, the development of the new Silver line on the Washington Metro has long been awaited. The Orange, Blue, and Yellow lines also service Fairfax County. Aside from Metro, the major highways which intersect the county are I-66, I-95, I-395, I-495, US Route 1, and US Route 50. The only airport within the county limits is Washington Dulles International Airport but, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Baltimore-Washington International Airport, and Manassas Regional Airport remain close by as well.
Weekends in Fairfax may include a walk or run on one the several trails in the county! Trails include Washington & Old Dominion Railroad Trail, Mount Vernon Trail, and the Fairfax Cross County Trail. Or if you prefer to stay indoors, join the 55,000 shoppers who visit Tysons Corner Center and Tysons Galleria every weekday. Either way, there is something for everyone!
