One of the best ways to spend time outdoors and with family is by taking in an outdoor movie.  Across DC, Maryland and Virginia, there are plenty of places to catch a flick.

Washington DC
Adams Morgan’s Movie Nights was voted one of the best outdoor movie series in DC by Washington City Paper readers and is including movies that fall into the “Road Less Traveled” theme.  Movies are shown Tuesday nights at the Marie Reed School soccer field May 24th through June 21st.

Films on the Green DC features French films and they take place at the French Embassy, the National Mall, the Hillwood Estate, the National Arboretum and other places throughout the city.  Movies are free, start at sunset and run weekly through July 13th.

Georgetown Sunset Cinema shows screening on Tuesdays at Georgetown Waterfront Park from August 2nd through September 6th.

Every Wednesday through June 8th you can catch CiNoMatic in NoMa with “Throwback” movies like “Space Jam” and “Mrs. Doubtfire.”

Maryland
“Movies on the Potomac” at National Harbor screens family movies on Sundays at 6pm and date night movies on Thursdays at 7pm.  Each month has a new theme of movies, including animal, travel to faraway places, foodie films and musicals.

Rockville’s “Movies in the Parks” provides free outdoor movies at Courthouse Park, Montrose Park, Potomac Woods Park and Calvin Park.

Northern Virginia
At the Trinity Centre in Centreville, catch Starlight Drive-in Cinema on Saturdays at 5pm.  Cars are not required as chairs and blankets are totally acceptable.

Strawberry Park in Mosaic District has airings Thursday nights at 7pm from June 9th through August 25th.  Some of this year’s movies include “The Birdcage” and “In the Heights.”

Friday nights movie goers can meet at Gateway Park in Rosslyn for free movies.  Food trucks are available as well as beer and wine.
