Pike & Rose Announces Two New Restaurants: Kusshi Sushi and Sake Bar and Commonwealth Indian

by | Mar 12, 2018

A sushi and sake bar and an Indian restaurant will be coming to Pike & Rose, according to Federal Realty, the developer behind the North Bethesda community.

The two restaurants will open in the former spaces of eateries that closed last year in the North Bethesda development. Commonwealth Indian will open in place of La Madeleine on Old Georgetown Road, and Kusshi Sushi and Sake Bar in what had been Carluccio’s next to Owen’s Ordinary.

Kusshi Sushi, which takes its name from the kusshi oyster, will open in the fall, offering sushi rarities such as sea urchin and its namesake oyster, according to a Pike & Rose spokeswoman. The bar will offer an option to order meals “Omakase,” meaning “to entrust the chef,” in which the chef prepares a multicourse meal based on the freshest ingredients that will be different each day.

Kusshi boasts it will have the “largest selection” of sake in the D.C. area, according to Pike & Rose.

Commonwealth Indian will offer specialties such as Khansama ke Tari Wala Murgh, a curry chicken, and Angrezi butter chicken, according to a press release. The restaurant will also have a full bar serving Indian beers, wines and cocktails. On Saturdays and Sundays, Commonwealth will serve a champagne brunch. Federal Realty was not immediately available to say when the restaurant will open.

The restaurants will join a growing slate of eateries at the development, including Del Frisco’s Grille and City Perch Kitchen and Bar. Ramen restaurant Jinya, taco and cocktail joint Nada and Julii, a cafe from the founders of Cava, are among the other restaurants set to open in Pike & Rose.
