The Giving Tree Project Gives Back This Holiday Season

The Giving Tree Project, which was founded in 2015 by Ben Sherman, sells Christmas trees each year and gives a portion of all profits to a non-profit in the community.  This year they chose the H3 Project which helps homelessness in NoMa.  Each tree sold helped to provide household essentials to formerly unhoused people in NoMa.  These individuals were given new homes through the District’s C.A.R.E. pilot program.

This year there was a shortage of Christmas trees which caused an increase in price.  Depending on the type of tree prices were up 12-30%.  The Giving Tree Project took it upon themselves to eat some of the additional cost so that more money can be given to those that need it.
